Marijuana and hemp are both forms of cannabis sativa. The only difference is the resin, or THC, content. Marijuana has a high THC content and is thusly illegal while hemp has a low THC content and is used for a variety of things, such as to make ropes.
CBD is the abbreviated name of cannabidiol. CBD is a phytocannabinoid derived from cannabis that interacts with the human endocannabinoid system.
Hemp was legalized in the 2018 Farm Bill. CBD is legal in all 50 states, as long as it is derived from hemp and has less than .3% THC.
CBD and THC have very similar chemical structures. The slight difference between them, a simple bond, allows THC to bind to endocannabinoid receptors in the brain, whereas CBD does not react with these receptors. Instead, it acts to increase the amount of other natural endocannabinoids in your body.
Ultimately, consult a physician. CBD has no known reactivity to other medications. However, be careful about taking CBD if also on medications that warn about eating grapefruit; like grapefruit, CBD inhibits cytochrome p450, which lowers blood pressure.
There is no certain dose for CBD. The amount of CBD one should take is based largely on tolerance, body size, experience with CBD, and so on. Thusly, one should start with a small dose and increase after that.
